The company, Famfa Limited was incorporated in September 1991. Famfa was awarded the leasehold rights to OPL 216 on August 10, 1993. In February 1996, the name was changed to Famfa Oil Limited with the vision to be the leading indigineous oil and gas exploration and production company in Nigeria. The block is located approximately 220 miles South East of lagos and 70 miles offfshore Nigeria in the central Niger Delta.

To facilitate the exploration and production activities, the company entered into a Farm-in agreement with StarDeep Water Petroleum Limited a subsidiary of Chevron Texaco Inc in 1996 as technical advisor. On May 11, 1998, a portion of Star's interest was assigned to Petroleo Brasileiro Nigeria Limited ("BrasPetro").

 
 

Famfa was awarded the leasehold rights to the 617,000 acre OPL 216 block on August 10th 1993 by the Federal Government and signed on Texaco as a partner on September, 16 1996. On May 11th, 1998, Petrobras was also signed onto the project.

The discovery well, Agbami-1, encountered 420 net feet of pay in multiple oil zones from 8,200 feet to the total depth of 12,400 feet.
