The handover ceremony of a Science laboratory complex donated to Government Science Secondary School, Kaltungo, Gombe State took place in Abuja because of the security situation in the benefitting State.
Dignitaries at the event include: The Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Mohammadu Inuwa Yahaya, The Principal, Government Science Secondary School, Alhaji Aliyu Garba Waziri, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Gombe State, Borno State. National Assembly Members representing Gombe State, Representatives for the Agbami Partners – Famfa Oil Limited, Star Deepwater Petroleum Limited, Equinor Nigeria Limited formerly Statoil, Petroleo Brasileiro Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) were also present at the handover ceremony.
The Permanent Secretary of Education, represented by Alhaji Isa the Director of Higher Education, in his opening remarks applauded the Agbami partners for their timely intervention for the development of science education in Gombe State. He thanked the Agbami partners on behalf of the government and people of Gombe State for this befitting edifice. He implored for more intervention for other schools in the state.
In his remarks, the Director Deepwater assets of Star deep water petroleum Mr. Rick Kennedy, who was represented by Mr. Emenike Okorie Director Government affairs said that the provision of this science laboratory is one of the programs in the partnersâ Social Investment plan aimed at improving science education amongst secondary school students in Nigeria.
He also remarked that the Agbami parties support the view that education is the key to unlocking the potential of the youth and developing their capacity for societal relevance. And that this is one of the reasons why the partners are committed to promoting quality education in partnership with the government and other stakeholders. He said that the drive behind the partners education support is to improve access to education for all Nigerians through the donations of hybrid libraries, science laboratory complexes and scholarships.
He also reiterated that partnership is one of the core values of the Agbami parties and are happy to have partnered with the Gombe State Ministry of Education and the management of Government Science Secondary School, Kaltungo, to execute this project. He thanked the school board and the Old Students Association for collaborating with the Agbami partners to ensure the successful completion of the project.
He stated that since inception of the Agbami medical and engineering scholarship scheme in 2009, more than 71 students from Gombe State have benefitted from it and a further 67 students from the NNPC/CNL Joint Venture scholarship. The Agbami partners in 2009, built a student hostel for Government Girls Science Secondary School in Kumo, Gombe State. And in 2014, the Agbami partners built a fully equipped Chest Clinic at General Hospital, Zambuk, Gombe State.
The Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Mohammadu Inuwa Yahaya who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government Prof. Abubakar Njodhi, thanked the Agbami partners on behalf of the government and people of Gombe State for partnering with the government to improve the level of education in the state. He said that this handing over ceremony should have be done in Gombe State because it is a safe place. He furthered stated that education means a lot to the people of Gombe State and that they are thankful to the Agbami parties for touching their lives.
