On the 21st of November, 2019 FAMFA Oil Limited and its Agbami Field Parties (Star Deepwater, Petrobras, Equinor and NAPIMS) donated a Mother and Childcare Centre to the General Hospital in Misau, Bauchi State. The event held at the Bon Hotel Elvis in Wuse, Abuja and was attended by the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed; The State’s Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Awwal Muhammed Jatau; The Commissioner of Information, Dr. Ladan Salihu; The commissioner of Special Duties, Turaki Mohammed Manga; The Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Dr. Aminu Gamawa and other top dignitaries to mention a few.
The welcome address was delivered by The Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Jatau who described the donation of the Mother and Childcare centre by FAMFA Oil Limited and its Agbami Field Parties as a timely intervention which arrived shortly following the declaration of a state of emergency in the Health Sector by the Governor of Bauchi State. While speaking, he stated that the facility will help improve maternal and child healthcare indices. Similarly, he pledged the support of the State Government and the Ministry of Health in ensuring that the centre remains functional.
The Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. Bala Muhammed also spoke at the event. He mentioned that Bauchi state has suffered from neglect and abandonment in the health sector in previous years. He stated that the donation of the facility to the north-central zone of the state has given him an added impetus to make sure that the declaration of the state of emergency in the health sector is not a gimmick. He praised the Agbami Field Parties for giving back to the society especially to an area which cannot be regarded as their primary area of operations.
The Chairman of FAMFA Oil Limited, Mr. Modupe Alakija was represented by FAMFA Oil’s Facility Engineer, Mr. Yemi Atolagbe. In addressing the audience, Mr Atolagbe stated that the aim of the Mother and Childcare facility is to provide quality healthcare across the country. In speaking he said “FAMFA Oil Limited and the Agbami Field Partners have been fulfilling our corporate responsibility role to Nigeria through our social investments in various parts of the country. We have completed several projects and have continued to implement more interventions to improve healthcare delivery across the country, enhance quality education and provide economic empowerment for our young ones”.
Following the speeches by the Agbami Field Parties a goodwill message was delivered by the Commissioner of Special Duties, Mr. Turaki Mohammed Manga on behalf of the host community. Mr. Manga thanked the Agbami Field Parties for not only donating the Mother and Childcare Centre to the community but for also providing a dialysis machine for the hospital.
