Oil and Gas Field
The cornerstone of the development is one of the world’s largest floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, shown here as it was towed to the site.
Key components of the FPSO were fabricated in Nigeria, setting a benchmark for using Nigerian goods, labor and services.
Agbami represents not only a new source of energy supply, but also provides employment and economic opportunities for Nigeria.
Agbami FPSO
Developed using an FPSO, the Agbami field began production on the 29th of July, 2008. The Agbami FPSO is designed to handle 250,000 bopd with an additional 450 MMcf/d and 450,000 barrels of injected water per day.
At its inception, Daewoo Shipping and Marine was contracted to provide the FPSO for a consideration of $1.1 billion. Daewoo Shipping then subcontracted it to KBR who provided the topside design and procurement services for the FPSO.
The vessel has a storage capacity of 2.2 million barrels of oil and is designed to be on location for 20 years. Weighing in at 30,000 tons with 13 topsides that generate 75 megawatts of power, The FPSO has a living quarters that caters for 100 personnel.
The development of the FPSO required 6,500 tons of fabrication as well as 300,000 man-hours of engineering and services. The Agbami field which was initially expected to produce more than 100,000 bopd, at the end of 2009 experienced increased production of 250,000 barrels of crude oil and natural gas liquids per day at its peak.
